Steve, I am a retired High School band director, and I am here to tell you that the drum solo is an excellent example. Wow.

Thank you sir. We are quite proud.
The kid has been working at Taco Bell for 2 years and has saved every penny to buy those drums.
He loves music. He has his own Metal band....he plays in the school Jazz band...He plays in the Church band.
Everyone in the house has ear plugs....

I am hoping to hand him the keys to this mustang when he graduates next year.
He is a staight A student, and he is plans to studyBio or Chemical engineering after High School.

That is aswome.... Im a drummer myself.. started in JR High after realizing that I couldnt read the saxaphone sheet music,, I could sight read and play but had no idea what the notes were.. Drum captain all through high school and Im still drumming to this day..

Soaring: I had no Idea that you were a band director .. Thats a job I have allways had in the back of my mind.. I think it would be great..

Yeah, I just retried last year after 36 years. It was a whirlwind though. I had very little time for myself. Marching band, Jazz band, concert band, Solo and Ensemble contest, Region band tryouts, drum corps. flag corps. Drum Major camps in the summer. Raising money for the spring trip, Band parents meetings, etc.
I miss it, but not enough to do it anymore. I enjoy my golf.

Chemical engineering, cool, that's what my degree is in.I hope he realizes once he hits the upper division course work he's in for many sleepless nights with all the lab projects, home work, etc. I didn't know any chemical engineering student who had a social life and good grades, no matter how smart they were.

I never played an instrument in a band, but my wife plays the clarinet and my best friend from college played the trombone in the Cal Aggie Band-Uh! (disbanded several years ago due to cultural insensitivity, etc. They were a bit on the wild side.) By the way, UC Davis has one of the best Chemical Engineering programs in the country. At least whenI was there, they were considered the best in the west.
