Overcharging battery Help??
I have a 1968 Mustang Coupe with a 289-2bbl. The battery seems to be overcharging. I state that due to the fact I took her out for a ride yesterday and I took under the hood and saw battery acid coming from under the vent caps of the battery and onto my battery try. I clean up the mess and took the battery out. I have not look at it further as it was late last night. Does this sound like a voltage regulator problem? The battery is brand new as the alternator. I know that may not means those parts could not be bad but it is worth mentioning. Anyone have an idea or experience with this one?
Thanks,

Thanks Soaring. I only drove here once before I noticed the overflow of acid. In your opinion, should the battery be OK? Should I take it to be tested? Other than the acid, the vents have not popped up or no bulges/cracks in battery case.

One more question that I always wondered. What is the difference between a voltage regulator that is rated for 55 amps, 60 amps, etc? If you havea 55amp alternator and have a 60 amp voltage regulator what be the outcome....a battery not charging completely??

You say the battery is new,, it should be under warranty,, and usually its a no questions asked type thing with batteries,, at least at wal-mart it is.. So take it back and get a new one just to ease your mind.. Thats what I would do..
