i've got a problem...my stang wont start, i have the wrong starter. the tranny i thought was a c6 is actually a c5 so guess what the starter doesnt work, would you guys have any idea what kind starter i would need, the tranny i believe is from a 1986 f series truck.
I need help in find which one.

 

from a ford f150 forum it says that year truck had a c6 or a aod the c5 never came in a f series truck it was in everything else ranger astro van cars etc. look at the pan on the tranny is it a square box shape or does it look like the state of utah. if you can still get to the truck look at the little gear display thing if it says d its a c6 if it says (d) its the aod hope this helps you

 

it did somewhat, but i need to know which starter, While i was at advanced they pulled it up and gave me the filter kitfor a c5 tranny in 86, but any how What stater goes in that?

 

Just tell the clerk it is an 86 f series truck starter. I don't understand the problem. Have the old starter with you so you can compare to make sure it is the right one. You will need to turn in the old one anyway so you don't have to pay the core charge.

 

well the problem is the old starter is the one that doesnt fit in the bell housing, the fly wheel teeth hit the cone on the starter...damnit i need to invest in a camera!

 

I hate to say it, but you might be screwed. Your flexplate (flywheel) may not work with your bell housing. Since the starter will not fit back into the same hole it came out of, I am assuming you installed a new flexplate that is bigger in diamater than the one that came off.

There may be a starter that will work with this combo, but you are going to need to do some footwork to find out for sure.

 

i dont understand why they are giving you parts for a c5 when no f series had one

 

I have a C-6 that came with my engine core, it might or might not work (I was told that it worked). I will give it to any M/F member (especially active military members) who needs it and will use it. Let me know if you want it.

 

i might be able to take that c-6 off your hands...
