Default some running problems

although I dont my pony anymore, a buddy and their family has one that needs some help. The father died a few years ago and I believe he was keeping the car up. My friend, one of the sons, asked me to come over and see if I can help get the car running properly again. Right now, all I know is that the car is an auto with a 289. The only problem I remember is that it basically stalls out if you hit the gas too hard. For cruising purposes it drives ok but too much throttle from a stop could result in stalling. I know there's a list of things that could be wrong but my first guess is that the car is not getting the needed fuel. I really have no idea what condition the cars in so I'm just gonna bring all my tools and do a quick check over the following:

Spark Plugs, Dizzy, Wires
Air Filter
Gas Filter
Fuel Lines

I guess I'll have to try to set the timing but unfortunatly I have no light so it will be kind of a find where the car runs well thing.

Anything else I need to look for? Thanks in advance guys.

Doesn't sound like a timing issue, sounds like a carburetor secondary issue. When you whomp on the gas the secondary jet(s) open up. If they dump too much or not enoughfuel they will flood or starve the motor and cause it to stall out. You'd smell gas if its flooding the engine.

Find out if your secondaries are mechanical or vacuum. If they're vacuum replacing the lines would be a good start, then check to make sure you have the proper amount of suction for the lines (Psi). If they're mechanical make sure they're not stuck closed.
