Default Tank Armor in

After looking at the rear collision damage of my friend's 66 coupe (car was total loss) andinspecting the trunk area in which the tank was several perforation ( gas leak during the collision but no fire) we both agree that the trunk area don't have the greatest protection.
Few weeks after while attending a local automobile swapmeet I found a brand new tank armor from a vendor that had purchased but never installed because sold his Mustang, the price was rigth and I was impress by the construction, made of a 11 gauge steel and weigthing 30 pounds I decided to install iton my FB. After completion was appearent that give the trunk area excellent structural strength.
Installation was very simple about 15 minutes, here are some of the pics.

You can get a "fuel cell" that has the fuel enclosed, but that costs a bunch more moolah than the tank armor.

Something between this and one of those high end fuel cells would be nice. Seems like there would be a justifiable market for one.

hmmm..oh right... that little word called 'liability'... nobody wants to touch it.

This is supposed to keep the tank from erupting on top and the fuel entering the car. Supposedly, the fuel will go down and under the car in case of a rear end collision.

There is still a weak point - the filler pipe.

that is true but it is a much smaller weak point than having the whole top of the tank exposed
