Heads for 302
There seeems to be a lot of post on the subject but nothing clear i can latch on to. I've got a stock 1970 302, 600 Holley, performer intake, hooker headers that I woud like to bolt on more HP w/o swapping cams. Like to keep same carb and intake and just change heads and get max gain. Any suggestions?
Lotta companies all make decent heads. For a setup like that, AFR 165, TFS TW's, Holley's heads fora 302, Eddy Performers, Dart 170 etc etc. You could also try and find someone who does head porting(a real head porting) and if you can get a good deal that way it would definately be better than stock. But if you swap heads, you're halfway there and might as well put a better cam in it, then it'll REALLY come alive. Could even spend the $$$ and do a roller cam conversion, it'll run great, get decent mileage and have plenty of power. And it'll work with your carb/intake/headers. You could also look for junkyard GT40 irons(not p's otherwise you'll have to get different headers)
Seems to me you should consider changing cams to one thatis abit more meaty if you want to see significant gains with aftermarket heads. Especially since they don't cost much in relation to the price of most A-M heads.
I went with these heads for my 302 and i'mvery satisfied. My cam is a bit aggresive but nothing crazy.

RHS makes some pretty good heads. Don't go too big unless you get the cam to match. That Performer intake will also hold back a good set of heads. 1.84"/1.5" valves would be more than enough, but it's difficult to find a set of aftermarket heads that small. You might consider a package deal, like that from Edelbrock or Holley. They come with heads, cam, and intake...all matched together.

Yeah, if you can find an h/c/i kit that's the way to go, everything all rolled up into 1 cost effective package

from the sound of the original post, you would be happiest with a set of GT40 heads, or early 351w heads.

yup, its like 95's thru 97.5 exploders had the regular GT40's, but they have a larger chamber than the heads used on the 93 cobras so you need to mill some off the heads to get the compression back up.
