Default No Reverse after filter change

Just when the stang started running like a scalded dog my tranny gives out. I wonder why. Saturday I had problems with my 3rd gear. Today it worked but slipped a little when going from second to third. I drove it maybe 20 miles today. I went and got a new filter kit and ATF fluid for my C4 so I could maybe get 3rd gear working again. I was able to smoke the tires on a 20mph roll and then get a little sideways in second. Man that Edelbrock is working great! I took the valve body out and separated it at the plate. I cleaned all the ports with brakeclean then rinsed it in ATF fluid. I got the new filter in and filled the fluid level. Now I have no reverse. None, nada, zip, zilch! Anyone have an idea what I did wrong?

Hello. My first guess would be that the fluid level is too low. Hope that helps.

you could have cracked a gasket in the valve body when you decided it was a good idea to drop it out of the tranny - that would screw you all up.

from the looks of that thing, its time for a tranny anyways [:@].

are you running a manual valve body? If so you could have just forgot to reconnect the transbrake. Back when I bought mine I thought I had cracks something when I did some mod to the tranny to run a different shifter. Turns out I just needed to hook up the transbrake for reverse. [:@]

Man look at all that residue on the filter. Im thinkin your friction material is worn down pretty low. Was there anything in the pan?
When I put my ranger together, at first I used a C-4, I put in a new filter and fluid. The trans lasted me 10 miles before it fried and blew apart all teh friction material looked like I had a bunch of dirt in the pan.

based on the sludge I see in your photos I'm guessing your trans pan doesn't have a magnet in it? The clutch packs inan auto tranny do have metal in the compound and a magnet in the pan keeps that stuff from floating around. I'm going guess that when you replaced your filter, some of that stuff got knocked loose and is clogging the passasage ways. Run a tranny flush and redo the filter/gasket. Should hopefully solve your problem.

Honestly, I would try some of the lucas transmission fix.

I was having problems slipping in and out of 1st and reverse when I first got my car running. I drained the pan for a second, added the lucas and topped it off with Type F and it shifts great now!
