Default Slow to start in the mornings*

Hey guys, i'm on day 3 of owning my first 67 mustang, but i noticed this morning at 6am as i was getting ready for work that my car had a little trouble starting up without giving it a little gas. I assumed it was due to my driveway being a little sloped and so i backed it out into the street and after 3-4 tries and a little gas it hit and drove fine. I went to work and made a few errands and it cranked fine then as well. Could i get some advise as to what i should check out that might be the cause of this slugish kind of feel in the morning?? thanks

~Patrick

Btw everything is running great so far, drives good, looks good, and after looking over all the papers and recipts from past work on the vehicle, more money was put into it cleaning and fixing it up inside and out than what i paid for it in the last 5-6 years....so i was excited Rules out alot of problems that could possibly occur down the road. Thanks

in the morning after its been sitting for a few hours pump the gas 2 or 3 times then try and start, you need to get a little gas in the carberator so it has fuel to start on, its not like a newer car

Awesome thanks for the quick reply, i'll make sure to do that I told my dad about it, He had a 66 fastback when he was in highschool, and he told me the same thing. thanks! i'll make sure to give it some gas and pump it once or twice before i try to crank it after it's been sitting a while. can anyone tell me the process of adding a avatar into your sig? I made one in photoshot and can't find the options and steps to do so. thanks

By pumpig it a few times you are not only getting some gas in the carb, you are setting the choke butterfly which is imperative on a carbureted engine.
You can learn how to add an avatar picture, other pictures or a signature picture here:

That's not too big. Now get an Avatar pic going. If you want a fancy sig and avatar pic like mine and some others on here, send some pics of your car to the Chop Shop on the main board. They will custome make you one at no charge.

That happens with carbs. Like Soaring said, it's very important in the morning to pump thethrottle, preferably all the way to the floor at LEAST 1 time. Factory type carbs may require 2 or 3 or sometimes more. Carburetors aren't fuel injection, they can be testy. My Holley on my 302 is actually the oposite. I pump it once to set the choke and dump some fuel into the manifold, and the engine fires right over on the very first crank of the starter(except in VERY cold weather, under 30 deg F it can take a bit, but the oil is also thick then too). The thing with mine, is I have a lot of aluminum in my engine, so it starts fine cold, but after I shut it down when it's warm, and try to start it after it's been sitting for a bit, it's still warm enough for the choke to not come on, but cool enough that it doesn't want to fire, so it takes a bit to start it. But then, that's what happens when you try to cram 350+hp into a 302 with a carburetor [8D]. That's just how they are, and each car is just a little bit different than others, you'll get used to your car though. If you have any problems with it, the carburetor might need tuning/choke setting, but it sounds so far like it's ok

Soaring good news ...Just went outside to take a look at what is needed in order to fix my stance problem since the backend was sitting really low, and come to find out I don't have spring shocks at all, but air shocks. I hooked up the compresor and got the back end just a little bit higher than the front, looks muchhhhhh better ....and drives smoother as well!
