Monte Carlo Bar questio
I have a 289 with a 2V and the original air cleaner. Do I need to get a curved Monte Carlo Bar, or will the straight one work? It also has air, so the compressor will have to be contended with.
Soaring,
I thought the curved one was originally for those cars with an oval air cleaner, but could see how they would help if you have an aftermarket distributor that is larger than stock.
Also, if you already have an export brace, the MC bar will probably have little effect...

Here's an old pic of my engine bay before I cleaned it all up and got all the colors
right. What appears to be an export brace, really isn't. It's in two pieces bolted
together in the middle. I've been thinking about putting in an export brace too.
And yeah, the main reason for the curved MC's is for the oval cleaner, but I just wanted
to check with you guys before I put out the 100 smackers to buy one.

$100 seems high for a MCB and depending on how often you fangle around could get in the way, more so than an export brace. The EB are very stiff and prevent shock tower movement with respect to the firewall and each other. A MCB just ties the shock towers together...
I'm happy with mine...and you've seen what I do to my car.
Installation can be tricky though, you may have to get the front tires off the ground to allow the shock towers to 'sag back out' so the holes in the towers will line up. If so, your alignment may become a little off. The same could be true to get the MCB in as well.

Why do you want a MC bar? Or even the Export brace?
If it is for better handling, get both and get a bigger front sway bar and add a rear one. Also go the Sub-frame connector route and 620lb front springs.
I did all that to my 65 and have been happy ever sense.

Because old shock towers tend to move around some. Agree about the other items being done also, but they don't address the 'top' portion of the car's structure. When the tops of the towers tilt in or out, your alignment angles change dynamically, no matter how tight the bottom is...bad for handling.
