Default clutch rod?

My question, I have a 68 coupe, 289. Just installed power breaks. While installing the power booster I noticed the clutch rod. It sits about a quarter inch off the right (passenger side) of the hole in the fire wall I realized this is incorrect and I t should be passing through the hole in the center of the hole in the fire wall. I can’t get a good picture to upload. I just bought the car in February so I don’t know what has been done to the car. I have a new seal for the clutch rod but being this close to the sheet metal it will just tear. Anyone have an idea why it so far off from where it is suppose to be?
