Default shock tower caps

I have a 1966-when looking under the hood, should the shocks end piece that looks like a "t" be bolted on top of the cap or under the cap.I just had the shocks/front and rear suspensionchanged at a garage and I think they mounted the shock wrong...if I remember correctly it looks diferent then the way the old shock looked....the new shocks are grab a tac gas shocks.....the old shocks where very old...maybe the new shock has a different set up then the old...
any help

the "t" of the top of the shock is on top of the cap and bolted down...is this correct
thanks scott

The shock "T" is supposed to be bolted to the top of thecap. The cap as shown below shows the threaded nutzert that's attached to the underside. The bolt comes down from the top, through the 'ears' of the T, and secures into the nutzert.

Some people modify this to put the T of the shock under the cap. They drill out the nutzert, and secure the top of the shock with nuts, bolts, and lock washers.

James, extra shiney!I have a set like that too for my 67 but they are only about half the height. Do you know what size bolts are used?

Yep..I just sold these a short time ago. A little too much bling for me personally...but they'd probably look good with chrome valve covers and chrome air cleaner neighbors.

I "think"...they were 3/8"... but don't hold me to it.

On 65 and 66 Shelby GT-350's there was a thick washer welded on top to allowa little bit longer travel shock. Mounting the shock on the under side may have been for a shorter travel, but the application sounds bizzare.

The shock whould be on the top of the mount. The bolts fit into the threaded nut that is welded to the bottom of the mount.
