Default 1966 CONVERT. BRACE PLATE

Hi Guys

Newbie here

I'm restoring the chassis and cleaning up the bottom seat/floor pans.
Problem with a sheet metal piece ( don't know what its purpose it or its name )

Can you guys tell me what is its function please ?
And if I remove it to clean-out the seat pan(s) what will happen to mythe car ?

Here's where that sheet metal piece/part is:
Between the two seat pans. The drive shaft goes right thru it. Its like a tunnel type thing!
I believe its somekind of support or whatever.
What damage will I be doing if I temparilarly remove it ? to clean out the bottom seat pans ?

Thanks guys
GOD BLESS

If it's a more or less square panel held on with three bolts on each side, it's called the 'cross member plate'. Removal for cleaning is ok, replacing it before you drive would be a good idea. It's there for areason.

Hey Jim

Damn your good [sm=groupwave.gif]

Thanks to you Jim I can remove that " Cross Member Plate "
And again you hit the nail on the head with the amount of bolts that are suppose to be holding the "Plate" I got (2) two missing. I showed (4) four holding my plate.

The right count like you said is: (6) six.

Being a newbie you've help me more than you know. I certainly appreciate the time you took to post
your correct response to my PLATE question.

Thanks again
GOD BLESS
