Default Roof structure

I recently beat out all of the creases on the 70 FB that we are rebuilding. I can see why it had so many because the roof has no reinforcment or structure. I would hate to spend all this time and money to have some idiot set something on the roof and create another crease. Does anyone have any tips or ideas for strengthening the roof?

I will have to get some pics later. But your car will be the same as my 70. If you take out the headliner you will see that there is no structural reinforcement. The roof is just a big piece of stamped metal.

Sounds like someone did a dance on that roof. The hardtops have cross bar that the dome light attached to. It may give you a bit more roof support if it can be adapted. I never had a problem with my first 66 fastback (bought new in 1966) even when I carried a 17 foot long canoe on top.

The roof on a coupe is actually a skin that is welded into the front of your roof their are spot welds on the top of the windshield where it clips in with screws if you find a donor roof you can easily grind out those spot welds and replace it . But be sure you brace the car with rods so it doesnt flex when you take it out.

My BOSS-302 developed wrinkles on the sheet metal behind the door right at the emblem. Always thought the 67-70 fastback bodys were not nearly as strong as the 65/66's were.

Well, I visited Mustang Mania on Saturday to pick up some body panels. They have a couple of 69-70 cars there and none of them had any roof support. I am thinking of putting about a qurter inch of long hair fiberglass filler along the inside to give it some good support. Does anyone see any problem that could cause?

I'm not exactly sure where you are intending to put down fiberglass 'along the inside', but is the area free of rust? If you glass over rust, the rust keeps on growing.
I've done a bit of 'glass' work, and have found that 'roll' glass is easier to work than matting, just the itch factor alone. Consider that.
In an earlier post, I recomended that the roof bar from a hardtop bar be 'adapted' for your roof bracing. Did you consider that?

And pictures would help.
