Headliner is it a huge pain?
Well i need to replace my headliner and I was wondering would you just let a shop deal with it or is it simple enough to do yourself. I plan on doing my seats and everything to cut down cost.
To do it right you need to remove the front and back glass, which isn't too hard. Installing the headliner is a bunch of fussy work but not too bad. Make sure you keep the rods in order and note the hole that each rod goes into as you are removing them. Be sure to heat the headliner in the sun before starting the install. If you think youcan reupolster sears then you should have enough confidence to do the headliner.

Yep, you have to remove the glass to replace the headliner on a 65-66.
Don't you knuckleheads read the FAQ?

i guess i will let a shop install my headliner
No you don't need to remove the glass. Most shops replace headliners without glass removal. I had mine done by a retired Ford assembly line worker who, as it turned out, installed headliners for over 20 years at the San Jose assembly plant. If you remove the glass, you will need new weatherstrip and several tubes of 3M sealant. Plus there is always the chance that the glass will break. I hate it when that happens.

NPD sells a headliner installation tool p/n 935-2 which allows you to install it with the glass in place.
To the OP, I'd go ahead and give the install a try. The headliner is only about $30, so even if you totally screw it up, you're not out too much money. Don't forget the adhesive as well.
Good luck!

I pulled my headliner off and I didn't have to take the rear glass out - it just folded under the weatherstripping. I am going to try and change it without taking the glass out this weekend (I have the windshield out but don't want to take out the back glass)
