Default Air compressor concerns

I currently have a Campbell Hausfeld 5gal. air compressor. I recently purchased a 41/2 in disk grinder and welder, looking into a paint gun and die grinder. I was told a 5 gal compressor will not cut it. Im in college and have already spent about 2000.00 on tools and not touched the car. Can anyone tell me what size compressor to look for? How much CFM to expect? What brand is good? or Where to get a cheap one? I appreciate all you future input. Thanks

Craftsman available at Sears is a good start. No matter how big a compressor you get, it's not big enough.

Yeah, that 5 gallon jobby ain't gonna cut it. Take a read here to decide just how big you are going to need it to be.

The 60-80 gallon tanks are ideal, but man they are expensive.

It's not the size that matters, it's the CFM at a specific PSI like: 4.5CFM at 90 PSI. That has to do more with compressor HP than tank size.

Take a look at the specs of the disc grinder it will give a requirement of what CFM at what PSI.

I use a Craftsman 33 gallon 6 Hp oil free to bead blast. In fact, I cleaned up my fog light housings yesterday with no problem. The compressor was on steady for about 20 minutes and gave me 80psi constantly. Bigger would be better, but I don't know if I want to stand up hunched over my cabinet for that long.

That and bigger tanks take 4-EVER to fill up..... I don't use my compressor enough to leave it filled. That and I'm afraid with the garage heat (here in AZ) it could explode.

That's all true, but it only takes a second or two to empty a 5 gallon tank. It doesn't matter what cfm it is if there isn't enough air to support. So, actually it is a combination of all three, but you will see the cfm ratings rise with the addition of more gallon capacity.

i have a campbell hausfefld too but i think that mine is a 12 or 15 gallon tank. when I try to run my random orbital sander or my inline sander it takes the air out of thier in no time. My compressor will run constantly and I will still lose pressure. I guess I need a new compressor but since funds are not willing right not i have to get buy with sand for 5 minutes rest for 5 min. etc etc etc. Its a long and frustrating process but i make due
