yeah thats where this one is. But it's screwed on w/ some regualar screws lol. It's not rivited or anything and it's kinda just floppin around.

Does the dash pad look like a 67 or a 68? If someone 'rebodied'a 68 vin using a 67 body, they would have had to change the dashpad to have that cutout spot for the 68 vin.

 

68's have them on the dash too

sounds like the PO gave you the title toa donor car , don't know why that'd help the PO though (to keep the true 67 title ) unless he wasbuilding another 67 coupe that was salvaged or w/o vin?

i'd try to do a search on both vin's and try to figure out if the 67 vin is listed as a salvage, or worse is registered on another operating car someplace - that'll make things really complicated.

Best hope would be to find the 67 vin (incorrectly) attached to a car that still exists, isn't running but not listed salvaged...buy the title and you're back in biz - but its a long shot for sure

 

it's not about me wanting the world to think that it's a '67 lol.
It's about me having a screwed in VIN plate on my dash that will cause a cop if he pulls me over to take my car lol. Just trying to be safe about it.
I'm going to have to take a look at the vin plate on the dash to see if there was a spot for it or he just took some screws and made it temp. because it is just kinda flopping around and isn't really attached

well i just took a look and there isn't a spot for it to be attached. He put 1 screw in and just left it hanging. Here are some ****ty pix i took so u can see as a refrence. I'll just take it off then.

If i was to get pulled over, and the cop wanted to see my VIN plate, do i just show him the door?

On 68s I've seen, the VIN is pop attached to the metal frame under the dashpad. The 68 dashpad has a rectangle cut out from the factory so that you can view the VIN.

Bud, this is lookin more and more like someone changed the VIN on your 67. Sounds like it's time to refer back to the previous contributors on their ideas to get the VIN checked out.

 

but I thought from your first post that the VIN on the door/fender didn't match the title?

if the all the VIN's match except the dash plate, then yeah take it off and you're done. If the title, and thus the registration, VINdon't match the door/fender then how does it help to take off the dash VIN plate?

 

Couple of things. If the vin plate matches the title, then don't worry too much. Most likely the DMV won't pick up on anything.

The one thing I am noticing from the picture, if that is indeed the vin plate, I have never seen one that looked quite like that.
