Default Export Brace Questions/ Considerations

I'm thinking I'm going to install the export brace on my 66 (monte carlo bar also). My first question is has anyone taken off the "tabs" or connections for the old braces located on the shock tower? Second, has anyone used both the export brace and factory braces? Third, who offers the best Export and Monte Carlo braces. Fourth, are these things worth the install?

You can leave the tabs on. I would not use both. As for the where to purchase, any reputable Mustang Supply house (i.e. Muatangs Unlimited,Mustangs Plus, Tony Branda) all offer nice pieces. Highly recommend the addition of a Monte Carlo bar at least.

Those tabs are welded on. You can cut them off or leave them on. They don't get in the way of the new export brace. You will need to take the factory brace off because you will need the bolts and bolt holes on the cowl to mount the new export brace. I bought mine from Texas Mustang. I suppose you can buy them from just about any vendor. Yes they are worth it. I noticed an immediate improvement in handling.

You talking about the origianl 2 piece? That's probably what he already has and wants an export brace.

That is likely the one I got from NPD. It appears thinner than the last one I bought 15 years ago and the machining isn't the greatest (rough, almost sharp edges).

I definitely want to stay away from this sort of situation (cheap import) as I'm sort of big on functionality as opposed to being committed to looks. I heard Mustang Plus sells the import stuff. Is this true? Tony Branca seems like a good option. Thanks for the info.

Well, I can guarantee you that if you order from Texas Mustang you will receive a very thick dull edged export brace. I can't vouch for any other vendor. See what you think. I have no idea what the gauge is. See how it slips over the tab in the second picture?
