Default 69 suspension

I have a little extra money and want to upgrade the suspension (shocks, struts, etc) of my 69 coupe small block v8... any cost effective, yet well-performing solutions?

Convert to a rack and pinion steering setup. It's well worth the time and money.

Just upgrade my suspension this year on my 70:
1. Kyb Gas Adjust up front
2. 620 Coil springs - 1 inch drop
3. Opentracker roller perches
4. Grab a track - upper/lower arms, tie rods, idlers, and sleeves
5. 1 1/8 sway bar
6. Monte Carlo and Export Brace
7. 4.5 leaf springs - standard eye
8. Monroe back shocks

Onlyt thing I did not change was struts. Put new bushing on those though. Once aligned the car drives great. I like the stance. Best upgrade I 've done so far. Only change I'd do and may still one day is add theShelby drop. Have power drums and will probably switch to disks up front this winter. Plan on beefing engine a little more in future.

i agree with everything already said but the two i noticed the most bang for buck would be the shelby a-arm drop (basically free) and subframe connectors the subframe connectors were the bigest improvment on the chasis in a whole out of everthing i have done.. but with those two you still will need new springs and shocks at the very least, depending on the condition of your a-arms and steering componets ect..

PS our mustangs dont have struts..

69coupe415ci make sure you use the special upper ball joint if you do the shelby drop.

I believe the 'strut' reference in this case is to the strut rods that run forward and inward from near the balljoints on the LCAs. Not those MacPherson thingies that they installed on the Fox and later models.

Lots of info on the shelby drop in the FAQ section.

And yes, I took his "struts" as meaning strut rods too. I recently replaced all my suspension parts except for the strut rods becuase it was 115 bucks I didnt need to spend for new ones. Just cleaned them up real nice...

Struts rods ios what I meant - just cleaned mine up also and added new bushings - you'd think if I can remove them I'd know what to call them
