Battery Chaged: Car still not starting
Okay it's been hard finding time to work on the 'Stang in between Soccer and other engagements but I got the solenoid replaced, battery charged, + battery cable replaced, and a few other hook ups wirebrushed. Ignition no longer seems to be the problem though becaus it's cranking. I think it must be the fuel system now. I've got too much gas in the carb, the carb isn't tuned, my engine is flooded. I don't have any idea what's wrong?
When you push the gas pedal, does fuel shoot out of the vent tube on the carb? If so, you've got float issues, not idle tuning issues.
Have you verified that you are getting spark? Don't rule out ignition until you know for sure.

I usually pull off my entire air cleaner, but just taking the top off will suffice. You'll the see the geyser (if there is one) when you push the pedal.

You don't see fuel shooting out of the carb? That's a good sign.
Do you hear it dripping after the iginition is off? You may just need to do some adjusting.

Toolwench I'm an idiot. I appreciate your help but of course there is no good reason for my car not starting. I'm 16, only been driving for 4mos and the cars I've driven have all been efi. In other words none of them have a choke. I feel pretty stupid. I realized my mistake right after my last post, went out to the garage, and it was practically turn key. Sorry for wasting your time.
Dude, don't worry about it. You didn't waste my time AT ALL! I was once where you are: learning. I can name several DUH moments on my cars, too, even when I should know better! Plus, I get a kick out of trying to help diagnose and fix someone's car while being miles and miles away. It's fun for me.
I'm so glad you got it figured out on your own, though. That's great.
Or wait, did it start fine and then die or did it just act like there was never a problem? My cars have been doing a little of both lately...

Alright new problem (hopefully it can be solved as quickly as the last). I used the choke and got it started but that required me to pour gas in the carb, as has been required all the other times it started. It only ran temporarily though and then died. While it was started the Idle was really rough. I'm thinking that it is probably the idle mixture screw but as I proved a little bit ago, I don't actually know what I'm talking about

Well just to check do u kno where the a/i screws are.if u do great otherwise let us kno what kinda carb it is.screw them in until they just stop then back out 1.5 turns see what happens.Hows yr timing?
