Default c4 to t5

what questions should i ask a seller about the t5 transmissionbefore buying it off ebay other than the I.D. number on the tag? that would be necessary to know wouldn't it?

i have a 67 289 with a c4 that i want to swap to a t5. modern drive line has all the stuff but the total cost would be over 3500 - surely i can doit cheaper than that. no salvage yards near here have one - i already checked so ebay is a good alternative.

i'm a little scared because this is a lot of money for me so i don't want to mess up.

Iam also doing this conversion on my '66. I found that you need to make sure your T5 is from a 5.0 litre, the later model the better. Thesepages were very informative to me. Good Luck!

so a t5 from any 5.0 mustang from 1983 - 1993 will work? but the 90 -93 are better.

I would avoid anything older than '86, I recently purchased an '89. It was not rebuilt. The owner had been driving the car the day before I bought it, he is in the business of selling good used T5s and rebuilding and selling the not so good ones. If you search Ford T5 on the internet, you may get lucky and find someone in your area that does the same thing.

Yes, the year is important. Seek out a T5 from a V8 car, ideally a Mustang. The 1983-1989 V8 T5's are rated at 265 lb.ft. of torque, while the 90-93 T5's are rated good to 300lb.ft.

Look at the code on the tag to see exactly what you're looking at. As you probably already know, the 94/95 has a longer input shaft so you'll want to avoid those to make life easier.

That 91 out of a GT is a hell of a deal. Hook up to that if you are truly interested..

I just finished a t-5 conversion in ny 66 I got one off ebay for 200.00 and it worked great a 91 in fact!! even with the bellhousing best way to go then buy the fulcrum adapter kit a shorter driveshaft and crossmember and shifter and matching speedogear!! t-5 conversion from the 4 speed t-10 was the best conversion I ever did with 3.50 gears it dropped my rpm's from 3100 at 65 to 2200 rpm's can't beat that and the car hauls a to through alll the gears!!! reccommend the conversion to all less than 10 hours to do it all I even put an aluminum flywheel in and a 10.5 king cobra clutch and worked great!!! oh my total cost was 200.00 for tranny and bellhousing (found on ebay close to me) guy even threw in the king cobra clutch never used for free!!! the cross member, shifter, fulcrum kit and driveshaft and speed gear cost 650.00 all from cjponyparts.and fidanzaaluminum flywheel new off ebay for 300.00 I talked to the guy at modern drive line many times Bruce Couture IS HIS NAME. Great guy but prices are high and you can get the same stuff other places for a lot less. as you can see my total investment 1150.00 and it works great with no tranny noise!!!
