Salt air protection
Is there any coating or anyway to protect my mustang from salt air..A friend and I are seriously looking into moving to Oahu but the only thing holding us back is the fact that the salt air will tear our cars up.
Park it in a garage or keep it well covered at night. Additionally, wash and wax it regularly. I live right on the ocean and my cars are parked about 200 feet away from the water. Nine months out of the year, I wake up to cars so wet you'd think it had rained. The cars we drive and wash regularly show no ill effects from the ocean other than constantly being spotted from the moisture. My Jeep, which is essentially a toy and rarely driven for long stretches of time while it is too hot in the desert, is developing surface rust over all the "rock rash". It does have a cab cover which keeps everything under it looking fine. The Mustang stays in the garage so there are no problems there.
Go for it!

When I lived in Germany and the roads were always salted, I looked for those car washes that have the whirly thingamabob washer that washes the undercarriage. A good once-a-month coating of Maguire's wax and some chrome polish will help, but eventually nature takes its' course if you get lazy. You simply MUST park the car in a garage at night. Apartments/houses with garages are super expensive on Oahu. You may want to rethink the move.
Oily parts won't rust... That is how my pans on my old Chevelle survived years on Daytona Beach. Had a constant oil leak that coated the entire bottom of the car. The rest of the car went to crap, but man those pans were nice...

My uncle used to wipe his 1965 Ford truck down with a kerosene rag on a regular basis. He said it was to keep the salt off of it put on the roads during the Kentucky winters. Drove it through the creek to keep the bottom clean. When he finally got rid of the truck there was not a straight panel on it. He used it for a logging truck, but there was no rust to speak of after over 35 years of service.
Pretty good for that climate.
I used to think he was crazy as a scat house rat but it is hard to argue with success.
