Default Fluids colors

I have a small leak - the liquid is pinkish red - toward the middle driver's side. Anyone know what that is?

Also can someone give me a rundown of the colors of the various liquids (green, brown, etc) that are used in the Mustang?

Thanks

Not a big gushing puddle but definately lots of drops as it sat for several days (makinga 12" cirlce). The color is a clear red/pink located on the driver's side, under the streering wheel column)

Whether power steering or transmission, is itsafe to drive until I get it looked at? By the way, how much fluid does the power streering contain? How much fluid does the transmssion contain?

Thanks

Oh, one more thing, are old Mustangs prone to leaking?

Ha! Yea, it's 40 years old, it's going to leak, until you fix it. Now, there are a couple of things on a mustang that are have 'engineering flaws' that just leak more than other cars, but any old car has the possibility of leaking. I've heard from several people these transmissions leak more than other models. GMs radiators bust along the seams more than other vehicles...can't think of any more examples.

Transmission can contain about 9 qts. if I remember correctly, but the torque converter holds about 5 of that, and so if you were to drain the pan, you'd just have to fill it back up with about 4.0 - 4.5 qts. Power steering I'm not sure, but a manual probably has it listed

If it is under the power steering unit, then it is most likely the PS unit. Just check the level of both the PS and the tranny and top it off with fresh fluid then drive it.

If it is the a power steering leak is it a big deal to fix? Also is it okay to drive it to the shop even if the Power Steeringfluid level is low? Thanks

depends what the leak is causing.. it can be simple.. if on of the hoses is leaking. .. some more work it is the control valve (rubbers leaking) ..
from your discription i don't think it is the steering pump since that is located more forward.

but you can crawl under the car and check if you can see oil at one of those parts..most of the time you can notice the spot... feel with your fingers under the controvalve.. hoses connections to control valve and steeringpump... steering cylinder .

with that little oil you have seen on your floor driving wouldn't be a prob.. just to be sure check the level in your transmission and steeringpump
