finally blasted
Looks nice in those pictures, did you find any damage?
I would have taken a leaf blower and just blew all that sand out into the driveway for the wind and rain to take.
BTW, your pillars are insane!

There was about 1500 pounds of sand in there. No way I would leave it in my driveway. I spread it out over my back yard. Thanks on the pillars. I did those too. people are always stopping to look at them. I like to stand out among the crowd.
My boss just had a 39 chevy blasted and it was around 550 dollars. I am paying to have my doors and fenders blasted and they are 25 dollars a piece. would have done them myself but my air compressor is acting up.
I just had mine blasted. I "found" the shop by reading that David "4reboy" on this board was getting his done and asked him who was doing it. Mine ended up being $550 which was probably a bit higher than David paid (how much for you David?). I'm probably not quite the negotiator that he and his dad are.
I had it primed that same day at the body shop next door and have since turned them loose on the prep and paint. Fortunately, there is no rust and very few dings.

I would post some pics of my car out of the blaster, but I havn't put them on my computer yet
Tony, That looks great man,, good job on the pillars too! I have a question though,, Would it be a good Idea to blast just the outside of the car? Once I drop my motor in and get a few interior pieces I will be working on the body and think maybe just blasting and priming it would be the way to go. But I dont think I need the entire thing blasted.. there is not a lot of rust on my car. What do you think?
Yeah, and you must have thought I was kidding when I said it gets everywhere.. lol. The pic of your garage is priceless. HUGE mess from blasting.
The siphon blasters take twice as much air as the pressure blasters. My compressor runs a couple minutes per tank of pressurized sand, compared to constantly with a siphon feed. If you plan to do alot of work on old cars, get the biggest compressor you can find that will fit in your garage/shop. You can never have too much compressed air, but its very easy not to have enough.
Not a good idea on the outside, under the car is better. The engine bay, the wheelwells, the floor, door jambs, places like that. Never point it at a 90 degree angle to the metal, always take a glancing shot at it like you are using a scraper to peel the paint off. If you just worked the paint off from front to rear you will be VERY familiar with the long board and sand paper. If you blasted it all off that way, once you get it primed and a guide coat on it, you will find the waves. High fill primer will be your best friend when blocking those quarters and doors.
The rotisserie looks great. Building one in the next few months out of scrap layin around here.
Booger if you dont have rust, then dont worry about blasting the old paint off. Sanding will work just fine on the outside and not hurt anything.

it's up to you on the blasting. I blasted my car just because I want to have peace of mind in the fact that I know my car is done right. Origionally I thought about just sanding the body to paint but then I ran into a smashed in quarter panel that was covered over with bondo and it was pulling away from the car itself. If you are thinking about blasting the whole car you are going to have alot of extra work. I spent a couple of weeks scraping all of the under coating off. It was a lot harder than it looked. I painted my truck below in my garage and only sanded it down with a DA.
