Exhaust cutouts are pretty much a waste of money, and in most cases power. First, they're illegal in some states, second, they're not cheap(for ones that work and don't get stuck), and thrid, in about 99% of cases, the cutout isn't installed in an exhaust system designed for it with performance in mind and they end up taking power away and making you slower. It's like running straight open headers, guys with exhaust systems make better power, even if it's nothing more than a tuned length/diamater/tapered pipe coming off the collector. A cutout would work if it's installed in an exhaust system with the cutout in mind and in the proper place, but unless you know how to do that, or know someone who does, you're just gonna end up cheating yourself out of power

If you do put them on, you should think about installing thembefore the inlet to the mufflers about midway to 2/3 from the collector to the muffler, so you still have some exhaust pipe length and don't kill all your power. The really trick way, would be to get a book on exhaust systems, do the math and measure to see where the ideal length would be for a tuned exhaust and install them there(though this won't be as effective as a true tuned exhaust since it won't flow out of a single smooth continous pipe, but instead make a turn at a y to the atmosphere), but that'd be the best way to do it.

it isnt hp only your loosing its torque you need backpressure to make more torque meaning more hp too. why not get you some purple hornies or glass packs get the sound with a full exhaust.

Not true, you will gain HP...opening up the engine to breathe better, but you will lose some serious torque making it feel like some HP is lost too. I have a 4inch exhaust on my dodge ram with no cat. Lost a good bit of torque, but at highway speeds, seems like the truck cruises great.

I heard that QTP makes good cutouts, those are what's going on my car when I finish it. Go their website and check out some of the cars they have done it to. Here's the link http://quicktimeperformance.com/. They're about $300 for a set of two.
