Default EGR?

How can I tell if my 68' coupe 289 with a 2 barrel carb is EGR? What does EGR stand for? The reason I am asking is that my wife got me a Edelbrock Performer series carb and intake and I'm not sure if she got me the right one because I keep reading about this EGR thing. Thanks for all the info.

I think I just found the answer to my own question. I just did a search and read that the 289's never had EGR. But, I couldn't find any pictures or anything to let me know for sure.

EGR stands for Exhaust Gas Recirculation. What you have is Positive Crankcase Ventilation or PCV, and it recirculates the crankcase gases back through your intake to be burned twice.

egr is more of a efi car thing didnt start tell the late 80s early 90s. basicly took the smog pump idea and made it work with out the belt driven pump.

The first year for ERG was 1968. Itreturns exhaust gases back to the intake for more complete combustion.

Jim, according to this, the first EGR system was used on 1973 GM cars. I have never heard of a classic Mustang with an EGR system.
