Default 69 mustang

There is this mustang that is 4,500 and the guy selling says that it is very reliable, which is what I need because it will be a daily driver. here is the link

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/car/362250242.html

or there is this one http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/car/362938559.html that is in great condition, and only the vinyl top will need to be replaced. it is much more expensive, but I am not sure how much work the 69 will need. I will need to get at least one new seat(driver) and then new upholstery. the dash board is cracked and I am not sure how to replace that.

I am looking for any advice at all. I am 15 and I get my permit in a month, and I would like to learn how to drive in a classic mustang, and if needed, work on it until i get my license.

IMHO That looks like a nice clean car.

BUT it seems there will always be little things that'll need to be addressed when you make these 38 year old cars daily drivers.

Some you can ignore or wait on repairing other thingsmay just stop you on the side of the road! You'll want to find a line on 'experenced parts' if you plan to keep this as a daily driver.
Don't get me wrong there are some people that have very nice classic daily drivers... but most of us have cars that need a little TLC from time to time.

well he says he has been using it as a daily driver. the upgrades i would make are, wheels and tires, new seat and upholstery and maybe a paint job down the road. All this has been done on the 68, but it has 250,000 original miles. That worries me and I will have to ask how many the 69 has. Thanks for your opinion

they both look like decent cars. dont take the owners word. Check the floor board and trunk area for cancer bring a refrigerator magnet to check for bondo spots.

You could pull the carpet back or just for a little look see,, you could crawl under and see how much rust is on the underside of the car,, that could give you an idea of how much rust is on the floor boards.

GET RID OF THE DUMB LOOKING 6x9's on the floor board,, that looks like $H!t

250 miles is a lot just from experience looking at used cars. Another thing that comes to mind is that the thing is going to be bad for mileage. It was built for a time when gas was plentiful and less expensive.

harry do a little searching as most oldMustang rust out in the same spots. Known problem areas. Can you inspect the car in person? YOU can try and get an idea by pressing down with your hands to locate possible soft spots in the floor. Please realize that when looking from the bottom under the car you are NOT seeing the same piece of metal that is under the carpet on the inside. Thereis about an inch of space between the two.
I would like to add... IF you think it'll handle or take the abuse of racing or ralleying with any of your friends neons, civic, or any car less then 10 years old... chances are it will NOT be a daily driver for long! Don't be tempted! Know you are driving a classic and that's something their car will never be!
Sorry that was the parent in me.... already been theough an 18 yr olds first car, working on getting a 15 year old through their first and have 2 more after that!

There really arn't any places to race, so thats not really an option. I was at a drag race a while ago and they had people race their cars against cops. They were mostly high school kids and I was thinking that would be fun. Doing that wouldnt be bad for it right?
