How to attach 68 Grille Ornaments
Hi all,
Since my 68 coupe was already apart when I bought it, I have no idea how to attach the pony emblem and corrals back to the grille.
I'm assuming there are some kind of nuts or retainers that go on the prongs of the emblems. Do you know where I can find them? Went through a couple parts catalogs and could not figure it out.
If one of you could post a picture of the setup behind the grille that would certainly help.
Thanks
JC

You are in the perfect position, an unassembled car, to invest in a set of 1968 Mustang Assembly Manuals, the chassis, body, interior, electrical and even the weld& sealant. Those manuals show how each part was put on, in which order, how to adjust, torque requirements and even the part number. To decode the part numbers, you should have the AMK book, Ford Fasteners.
The answer to your question is - 374566-S36, a 5/32 self threading stamped nut with a sealant and yellow zinc chromate in color. The nut is 9/16 inch in diameter, 9/32 inch highand uses a 11/32 hex drive.

My only guide I used when putting mine together was the NPD catalog....Look up the parts you need in the book and you can get a idea of what else your missing...

Not really, mail order catalogs tell you only what's available for sale. The few that put in an exploded reference diagram are using the diagram prepared by Ford for service. The assembly manuals have considerably more. Of course, if it's beyond - I don't want to go there, at least for now.

Yeah, in this particular case I found nothing in the couple catalogs I have. Almost sounds like none of them sell the part.
Searching the web, I found only this site: http://www.paddockparts.com/Paddock/...709454FB8ED38F
Part X3404 looks close to what you described. Is this it?

I actually just found the same nuts from my local pep boys store, tried them and they worked well.
Just to clarify, my emblems are the original ones that were removed from the car, when I purchased the project car I got the emblems but no retainers.
I'm back on track now. Thanks all for your help
