Default New Problem

Okay so I have it starting pretty well and it stays on instead of dieing. I'd call that a good thing but now I have what might be a couple of bigger problems.I don't have my shift indicator on so I can't tell what gear I'm in all the time. So when I went to pull my car out I just shifted all the way back because I figured it couldn't hurt to pull out of a garage in G1. I tapped the gas just a little bit and the rear tires actually broke loose a little bit because there's no weight in the car. I shut it off to check out my sweet rubber mark and make sure everything was out from under the car. After that I went to start it again and it wouldn't work in park (acting like it was in gear so it wouldn't start at all) so I put it in Neutral and it started right up. Put it in gear once again and it just revved. What is up with my transmission? I opened the hood up and either my plugs or my wires were smoking so that is problem #2.

Sorry for the long story but I don't know the cause of either issue.

check your transmission fluid levels, my 90 has a small leak in its tranny, so when it gets low, it can be in drive but itll just rev up and act like its in nuetral sometimes

Thanks Atom. I'm willing to bet that's it actually because I know mine has a leak too. For some reason that just didn't occur to me. Any ideas for the plugs?

What did the smoke smell like? Electrical or oil. I'm thinking you got some oil on the exhaust manifold/header, but would need more information.

Plugs don't smoke, and I have never seen spark plug wires smoking. If it is electrical, look elsewhere. Highhilleer is probably right about some oil on the headers.
