fuel cells gerenally are just bigger gas tanks, they can be stronger then a normal gastank, usually used for race applications so the car wont run out of gas right before a race

Fuel cells are aluminum, steel or poly tanks which house a fuel "cell"...or bladder. These can be of any size...typically between 12 and 20 gallons. This fuel resistant neoprenebladder is designed tocontain the fuel in case of an accident. Some cells have foam internally to stop the fuel from sloshing around.

To put it simply they're stronger, more expensive, usually have more volume, and are most commonly used in race applications. If you are concerned about trunk space don't bother .

You can also buy a fuel safe fuel cell that is a bolt in replacement for the stock classic mustang gas tank and does nothing to your trunk space

It is also 3x the price of other fuel cells, so you pay for that luxury. But fuel cells are also rated for specific race classes which drives some of their costs. If this is a street car a fuel cell is generally not a good idea because of both the cost and the maintenance, the bladders do where out and the foam pads break down over time and can gum up your fuel filters and lines.
