Should I buy it - 66 Convertible
Help me out please! Give me your opinion and tell me if I should go for it or not - my neighbor is in a bind - he is moving and has to get rid of his 1966 Mustang Convertible. It is a one owner and has been park and garaged for the last 8 years. It is a light turquoise color with white/beige convertible top. The interior is in excellent condition - it has the original paint and original top. The car needs painting and probably the top needs to be replaced (probably dry rotted), it has all the original paperwork. Chrome is pitted. I'm sure mechanically it will have to have some work from sitting so long. I know it's going to take quite a bit of money to restore but I can get the car for $5000.00
So.....should I go for it?
Okay - here is some more information. It has a 289CI engine with a three speed manual transmission. All emblems are on the car - it has the electric convertible top controls which work and the AM/FM cassette original radio (which works also). It has the original trunk liner and a very small amount of rust in trunk. Also has the mustang floormats. It appears that there has been some restoration work done on the floorpans on the rear seat corners have been replaced (doesn't appear to have been done by an amatuer) the floorpans are fitted and they have done a nice job. The car has 101,000 miles. After charging the battery, we were able to drive the car and it drove great! It will have to be painted and the carpet should be replaced - the tires are new. So, what do you think now? Should I still go for it - invest some money in it and hold on to it or not?

I don't know guys....5K for a vert that runs is a pretty good buy, but really depends on the rust situation. If I were considering buying it, the first thing I would check for would be for rust. Engines, trannys, tops and all that are relatively cheap compared to fixing the rust. I know.....I spent 5 grand on my paint job, but had to have a lot of cancer removed and new metal welded on.

5K for a good runing/driving 'vert!!!!!! Buy it before someone else does. Rusty trunk floors and rails are easy fixes. As long as the rest of the "frame" and torque boxes are o.k., go for it!
