Default New engine??

I really don't know much about cars but I was wondering if anyone could tell me exactly what I would need to take out an original engine and replace with a new one? Like a list of parts and then how much it would cost in total. I would really appreciate this.

Thanks in advance!

Try theselinks, they should give you an idea of what you will be looking at. The top link is where I would shop at if I were in the market. A forum member works there (Mustanglover66). My brother-in-law just purchased an engine there and it is a very impressive product, plus they sent a cool CD of the dyno run of his actual engine...

You can get cheaper (lesser) products, reman and such. You can usually add about a grand for incidentals and parts you will want to change "while you are in there" + labor if you don't do the swap yourself.

Certainly good to see your enthusasm for old cars at 15!

I'm afraid that sort of question can't really be answered without knowing exactly what car you're removing the engine from and what items your replacing. It could range from 2000 to 10000 depending on what you're wanting to do and who does it.

The best piece of advise I can give you Harry is to start out thinking small. Find a car that is running well and doesn't need work to start. You should be able to find a nice 6 cylinder coupe for 4-5 thousand that would get you started without having to immediately drop thousands more into it.

Just realize that if you want a early V8 Mustang... that runs good and looks good... that's gonna cost you 7-8K right out of the box.

How much HP and how much money do you want to spend. A rebuild would be a good thought using better heads and such to increase performence.

I would like to spend maybe not that much in the begining, like 4-5 grand, and then maybe over the next few years put about 3-4 more into it.

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/car/368427926.html

there is one car I am looking at and it has a 6 cylinder and I am not sure how much work I would need to put into it.

There is also one that is completely original for 8000 and it only had one owner.

If anyone feels like it, can someone go to craigslist(http://sfbay.craigslist.org/) and see if they can find a good car that I will be able to drive but might need some work. I don't get my license until february so I will have some time to fix it up. This would be greatly appreciated.

And thanks for the links JMD!

if you want a v8 car, spend the extra money and get an original v8 car, you will never be satisfied with the sixxer, even if you do convert it to a v8

Anytime, When I first responded to your thread I didn't realize that you were so young and looking for info on a first car, andprobablelimited financial resources common to your position. There are certainly less expensive options available to you than what I posted, including a stock rebuild which is considerably less expensive that the links I posted, so don't get scared away from Mustangs on the account of my links!!

(those engines are cool to look at though)
