Default new radiator, still hot?

i just bought a 2 core (1 inch) aluminum radiator from Northern, also a shroud/electric fan (14 inch 1550 cfm) combo that bolts directly to the radiator. It held pretty steady at 190 degrees while it was around 91 outside today. Is that a normal operating temperature?
also, can i adjust timing to lower the temperature? Which direction and how much?

Hey Noob. These engines run their best at between 190 and 210 temp. You seem to have conquered the overheating problems that many mustangers are having or have had. As far as timing, keep it at 6-10 degrees BTDC depending on your altitude.

have you installed a filter?
alum rads are difficult to impossible to clean out once blocked, so if you swapped out a conventional radiator for alum because it was clogged, you can destroy the new alum radiator in a matter of a few hundred miles.

worth protecting your investment

If you have a 180 degree thermostat installed...I'd say that sound just about perfect.

Tell me more about this filter. I am about to buy a new aluminum radiator and sure do not want it blocked in a few hundred miles! Is the filter heavy duty? It looks a little light weight. Does the screen corrode at all? Kinda seems like another point of failure, but if it works...could be handy.
