Default 65 engine questions..

Well all welding, grinding, drilling, and sanding are mostly done (posting updated pics tomorrow for you guys) but the shell is completely together and now ive got to really decide on what engine I want, my first plan was to buy this fully rebuilt 351 windsor with a c4 tranny bored 10 over, never installed still in the crate from the engine shop for 3 thousand from the man I bought the car from...now im wondering how hard and pricey its going to cost and im not the most knowledgable person when it comes to installin engines and dealing with suspension components. The car had a 200 inline six in it from the factory but it was removed with 56,000 miles and its in our garage but the previous owner had converted the front end to a v8 setup, disc brakes, it has 351 motor mounts, he mentioned the cross member bars? control arms, etc. But my dad is really pushing putting a 289 into the car (he says for my experience sake) and just put do some motor work to it cam, valves etc. and throw a c4 with a shift kit and call it done. Personally Id like to do the worked 351 but whats you guys opinions, figured id get opinions from people who have done it.

ASSuming this is for the '65 Mustang, make life a lot easier and stick with the 289/302. The 351W can be shoehorned in there but it is somewhat a PITA. If this is for the '67, go for it since it is roomier between the shock towers.

It is always easier fitting an engine in a car that was available as original equipment.

I will side with your dad on this one, especcially considering your relative inexperience.

A 351 in a 64,65,66 is not really hard, but part selection is critical, and even with the right parts modification of some parts is needed.

I don't recomend this for a first project, especially considering that the 289/302 is such a capable engine.

I guess I could always buy the 351 and save her for the 67
So...if I was to buy 1 of the...I think that there are 3 at the junkyard I get all my stuff from what could I do to make it a fairly quick motor?

That would depend on your budget. If you want the full potential from a 289 or 302, you will need to build it from ground up, or get a crate that is already built.

Well I really want to do the work to learn from it, rather that just buy it and drop it in.
