E-Brake Handle Retrofit
Plus you loose the ability to place a half empty can of your favorite beverage in the aftermarket console drink retainers.
Now if the Mustang'mod' wasa turn brake type, it might be fun - in the dirt.
'Cutting brakes' was an East Coast name, out here we called them 'turn brakes'. I had them in all my off road toys (except the Baja - too many Mustangs to play with).

sense I wrote that article I have improved the setup by removing the wheel and replaced it with a different cable and a bracket. Also by using said cable and 2 spacers between the trans tunel and handle, I emilinated the need to cut a hole in the floor. I need to update my page, but I have not had time due to all the effort I have been putting in to fitting a jaguar IRS unit in my Mustang.

Looks like you did a nice job on the install, but I would still keep it under the dash!! I think it is more period correct!!

My car is any thing but "period correct" with a T5, hydraulic clutch, between the seats e brake, 4 wheel disc brakes, Rack and pinion, Performance front suspension, and soon to have IRS, and maybe even EFI. From the out side it looks stock.
That is what I have often called a bastard classic mustang because it has been changed from the original configuration that it is now not a classic mustang, but a bastard rendition of the original. Nothing wrong with that bastardization, but just don't pass that car off as a classic mustang.

I am glad that it doesn't work for you because if we all liked the same things than all our cars would look the same, how boring would that be. Not at a jab but as a point of curiosity what do you think of Mustang drag cars with tubed rear ends, blowers NOS and all the other things that go in to cars like that?
Day! Welcome to my other world... Everyone..this is Day. Day.. say hello..
Day makes me look bad when it comes to makin' the mods...
Sometimes the other board is a little slow so I come here to hang with the other modified brethern to defend the empire from the hard core classicafiles. You would fit right in! We need you on this end of the rope.
Seriously, ignore Soaring bastard comment... That's the way he greets all of us on this end of the spectrum. He's really ok once you get past the crotchety part.
Nice work on the brake. I've not seen that version before. Post come topside pics if you could.

"Bastardized" there Glen? Little harsh on the modified guys today aren't we?
What I did-http://s189.photobucket.com/albums/z277/GypsyR/?action=view¤t=console1.jpg
Mustang II console and parking brake taken from about a junkyard '77 model. I removed all brackets and everything by cutting the sheetmetal out all around them. Then at home I trimmed away the excess. That way I could attach all the hardware the same way Ford did (and get out of the junkyard before closing. The only compromise I made was to use a "cable repair kit" to join my two existing cables after triming them to the needed length. I didn't like the looks of the kit that much either so I added a couple of tack welds to the junction to ensure they would be connected permanently.
The console does fit the tunnel perfectly but no doubt quite well with some padded carpet. Doesn't fit around the AT shifter too well, well, it fits, just doesn't look so great. After I swap in my 5 speed it will be fine. At some point I guess I will make a leather brake handle cover, can't seem to find one.
I like it. Always hated underdash parking brakes. Liked the stock consoles but didn't really see the point. At least the MII has an armrest/storage pocket.
Dunno if I would recommend this to other folks. But, if anyones's interested...These aren't easy to find, particularly the "deluxe" version with the metal side insert (that can be brushed to match Deluxe '67 dash trim). Good console lids are about nonexistent due to sun/arm damage. Likewise the "chrome" plastic change tray. Make sure you get the rear ashtray with the console, a beast to find one later if you don't (how I know). Watch for cigarette burns, they're about impossible to repair.
Surely what I did could be duplicated with parts from a much easier to source donor. But my junk is both technically Ford AND Mustang. (Never mind those Mitsubishi seats in the picture
) And BTW the parking brake works great.
