Default Total timing on a 302 ?

Anyone know what the total timing should be on my Mild 302?
Stock , roller block lake pipes, T5
I hecked and it is at 55 at 3000 rpm is that a little high?
Is that why it seems to crap out a 3000 rpm

and just for clarification can you tell me how to check total timing, just to make sure i did it correctly?

I believe it's 6 degrees initial and around 32 degrees total. I don't have my manual here at work.

I don't know what stock is, but I think you are probably around 20* too high. I have 12* initial with 36* total and am using the light blue springs (medium weight) in my MSD dizzy and ignition. I don't know which dizzy you're using, but it sounds like the positive stop is missing or out of whack letting it advance too far. I'm assuming that the initial advance is to spec and it is running alright, correct?

If you are getting 55deg's advance your motor is beating it self to death. 38deg's max on a street motor. I only run 42 in my race motor.

Yeah, 55 is WAY too much. Advance requirements will depend on engine build, but it should be somewhere in the neighborhood of 10-15 initial and 30-38 total, again, depending on build.
