Default Golden Hack Award Nominee

So I started pulling the front fenders and doors yesterday and came upon this hack on the lower section of the driver side front fender. It is a cocktail of bondo, fiberglass mesh, and spray foam as a patch job on the lower section of the fender. Not sure if I should just cut off everything below the crease and weld in a patch or just hunt for a new fender. Can you buy a fender patch panels?

Big chunk of crap!

Big chunk of crap turned over.

Just what was the PO trying to acomplish with this mess? Were there holes under that mess?

If it were me I would be very tempted to replace the whole fender.........

I have no idea what they were thinking. What is the name of the vertical brace that is attached to the fender? I assume a new fender doesn't come with that piece?

That's part of the fender, look at the other side too. Get a used one.

Depending on your welding skills, you can either patch it or get a new fender.

Duh,,, yea I see the hole now, it kind of blended into the background, I thought that the concrete showing through the hole was metal,,,,

A considering the cost of replacements these days, areplacement is in order IMO..

I would just replace it,, Its not worth the time to patch,, If it were the rear quarter then I would patch, but its just too easy to slap a fresh, new front fender on, and no worries about it later.

After looking at the National Parts Depot catalog, it looks like there are 2 choices for fenders (repro or OE). Quite a bit of difference in price at $129 compared to $324. []
