Default Engine Identification Tag (ID) question

I've been trying to decode the engine tag. Any ideas on what all of this means?
302C 69 5
9-E K277-S

302 = engine size (c.i.)
C = engine plant code ???
69 = Model Year
5 = change level ???
9-E = Year-Month
K277-S = ??????

I'm not sure on what the preceeding K before the 277 tag code means. All I know is that it's a 302-2V. Not sure on the plant either (C). The S after the 277 could be a 5. I'll need to check again.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

The easy part is the 'C', Cleveland (in Ohio).
The change level is a running revision of the factory changes to the engine for service purposes. Ironically it is not covered in the Ford Car Parts Manual.
The rest of the letters around the '277'pertain to the transmission (flexplate or flywheel) and other engine related options - smog , A/C, P/S and combinations.
If you want to get the full information on the entire car (including the engine), contact Kevin Marti at http://www.martiauto.com/It will cost at least $30.00.

Thanks guys! Both were very informative. I'm looking forward to this project...well...been looking forward to it for 11 years. It's about time.

Ford is sending the build sheet in the next 4-6 weeks since it's missing the data plate. They said a 3rd party has to do it and I'm assuming it's martiauto since they have the rights to that.
