Adding emergency flasher to '65
Anybody familiar with the '65 wiring know whether the flasher wiring and switch is plug and play? I had an occasion in my '65 coupe where I really could've used it so I'm thinking about adding it to my fastback.
Thanks,
Jeff

Thanks, but it was an option on '65 and the switch is mounted in the glove compartment almost as an afterthought. It looks like the harness plugs in line in the harness between the steering column and the lights. I just wanted to see if it truly is that simple or if there are any differences with the main harness.

Jeff,
The 65 emergency flasher was an add option that connected inline with the steering column wiring similar to the way the 66 was wired. Note, I say 'similar'. The switch was mounted under the dash near the parking brake and had the flasher attached to the top. I'm not sure wheather a 66 type would work in a 65, but its use would be a good start. I just looked at NPD and they don't list anything except the switch. Junk yard stuff now.

Well, hopefully I can do something with it since I now own it.
I didn't have too much time to research this and time was running out on the listing so I sniped it at the end for $50.99.

Aside from the wire wrap being removed, it appears to be intact. As far as I can tell in the picture, the wire colors apear to match that of the '65. If it doesn't work with my '65 I'll likely be able to recover my investment.
Jim, that is interesting to know about the location of the '65 switch. I'm hoping that the switch is the same. Do you have any pictures showing the location of the switch? Hopefully, they are pre-drilled.
Thanks for the info!

Looking through "Mustang Does It", by Ray Miller, the only picture I can see that my be of the hazard switch in a '65 is on pg. 63. It shows, but does not reference, a chrome **** to the left of the parking brake. If so, this is not it. [
] I may have to mount it like a '66 in the glovebox.

The glove box is probably the best location. Under the dash is OK but I think it would have inteference problems from your right leg (gas to brake moves) or if there was a console. You could punch a hole where the 'seat belt' warning light goes. Wiring will be a bitch unless you get an old setup.

I was just wondering if you ever added the optional emergency flashers.
From what I understand the 65 and 66 flasher harness is different.
I did recently and had an issue where the right front turn signal would light up when the brake lights were on. It turned out to be short betwee the front right and rear right on the switch.
To answer you question it is plug and play. It gets power from the lighter or other constant 12v source. Then it just plugs into the factory turn signal wiring by the vent on the driver side.
