Dunno about off the line, she isn't running yet. My 98 v6 has 2.78, I thought it was pretty sad it had a higher ratio than the "performance" 9"

Unless you plan on pushing well over 400hp and racing, don't worry about upgrading to the 9 inch. Add a set of gears and a good rebuild of the 8" and don't look back. I have 3.80's in my '71, and it's plenty deep.

if you shorten it hope you get it prefect fit if not your in for fun.why not just change the diff and axles in your 8 inch. im runing a 9 inch but i have a world 460 man o war i need it. a 8 inch can hold 500 or more hp if built right. are you swaping from a inline6 and cant find a 8. also theres a link in the faq shows every ford car and truck with a 9 inch and how wide they was.

Nope its a factory V8 with 8" rear just thought of it only if it had gears that i wanted already...I might stick with the 8 then.A real good family friend is a mechanic and said hell help me swap the gears..and yes i kno u have to kno what youre doing and trust me he does.so ill only have to pay for he parts and maybe a couple lunches.

2 inches would have to come off. One for each side. I would just regear that 8.

try this calculator...only pick 4th gear for any gearbox (= 1:1 ratio so same as the C4 in 3rd)

will tell you the rev range when you do want to freeway it

personally i prefer the 3.5's but i do more open road than city.

question?????? if he spends 200 for the rear, and 600 to have it narrowed. no-one has mentioned anything regarding shortened axles. Does the 600 include the axles, bearings, re-seal, etc, etc, etc???
