Almost took my eyebrows clean off!
Started the new 302 i just dropped in my 66! It seems to run pretty well... but if rev it real quick the carb back fires. Any ideas... i haven't done too much tuning on the carb or timing yet. I'm going to tune all that the best i can then take it to a buddy of mine that works on hotrods and knows his stuff!
Also, i went to midas to weld up some pipes from the shorty headers to the pipes that were already there. The drives side hangs waaaaaay low! Probably 3 inches off the ground! the passengers side is fine. So i'm calling them up today and tell them they need to fix it and do it correctly! We will see how that phone call goes.

i had the same problem, good luck , first time i went with timing, and it sounded great, then it had no power, then i got timing better and messed with fuel air mixture, dam card was like riding a horse bucking for a minute
69coupe it can be timing air to fuel raito off or the carb has pms. dont feel bad last carb that backfired on me burned the hair off my arm still aint grown back yet.makes you stay back while starting one lesson you hope not to learn again but always do.

What kind of carb? If it's a holley... you may have blown your accellerator pump diaphram.... a common damage on backfiring holleys.

Yeah, this can happen in the older Holleys, if it does the car will idle like absolute crap and won't run right unless you're at or neat WOT. The newer ones have million mile blowout protection, and the power valves are designed to hold up to intake backfires very well. For anyone who has an older Holley, it's not a bad idea just to replace the power valve with a new one for that reason
