Default 351c Timing

I need to set the timing in my engine. Is there any one out there that can help me out.

Where are the markings to set the timing on the engine. Is the timing set at what degreeeither BTDC or ATDC. Where are the timing marks?

Basically how to do it.

The 351c is the 2v heads i just put a 4 barrel carb and rpm air gap intake.

Thanks

Mid to upper 30s total timing for 2v heads. Try a chiltons or other repair manualfor basic info you will need for the rest of your life. Learn to fish instead having a fish for one meal.

I also would recomend you get a Chilton's or Haynes manual for Mustangs. Either one has detailed directions, diagrams or pictures and the numbers to tune your car. You will need some special tools to get it done right.
For the 'bow tie' guy that's going to render aid,0.035 inch plug gap, 0.017 to 0.021 inchpoint gap (depending on the year) and 6 degrees before TDC.

6 degrees is what factory spec is. That should yield about 32-33 total timing at high rpms. With a performance cam, bigger carb, intake and exhaust, you can run 9-10deg with 36-38 total timing. At least I know I can. The problem gets to be that with that much timing, you can generate pre-detonation and higher than normal temperatures. Unplug the vaccum advance if you have it, set the inital timing at something like 5 degrees, advance the inital timing a degree at a time, take a test drive, and repeat until you start to hear detonation, then back off a little. My 4VCleveland likes 9.5-10degrees, but with theTexas heat, 7 is about all I can run right now without heat issues. That is in large partto a radiator problem, which is still on my list of things to fix. Good luck.
