Default Installing a new Spedometer cable...

Hey guys, I'm helping a friend install a new Spedometer cable on a 1969 Mustang with a 351W, automatic.

We took otu the old cable, and put in the new one, and when we finished putting in the new one the spedometer was stuck on 20 mph. All the time. We tried taking it out and putting it back in. Driving it around the block. And the spedometer doesn't move.

Any suggestions?

Is that you in your signature picture. If it is we should have a contest as to whom is uglier. Yeah, if your speedo gear in the rear of your tranny is up to par, and you have properly lubricated your cable with graphite then it should work just fine if your speedometer is working. Three things to check out. 1. speedo gear in tranny, 2. cable and lube, 3. speedometer

No, that's not me in the signature. xD I just think the picture is hilarious. And it might not be the gear. Even if we disconnect the cable, the speedometer stays at 20 mph.
