Well I finally got the carb today. It does have the 1.08 stamped on it but I cant find anyother stampings on the left front tab. It all looks good except one of the mixture screws has been broken off just before the base [:@]

It's right for a 289.
The letters/numbers should be on the side of the baseplate below the circle with the 1.08.
If you aren't comfortable getting the mixture screw out take it somewhere reputable and let them do it.
Does it need a rebuild? Roefastford is your man for a complete quality kit.
You need a dashpot if it's for your '66.
Find the numbers.

Look on the outer egde of the left front mounting tab. It should be number - letter - letter, as in '6Z A'. If there is no marking, the carbureator may be older than 1960 which is, I think, the year that Ford started marking them there. According to the Ford Car Parts, metal ID tags were first used in 1965 on carbs.

If you take it apart DO NOT LOSE THE SECONDARY CHECK BALL. It is a tiny little thing located in the vacuum passage above the small rear cover. This ball does not come in any kits I've seen. It's smaller than the primary check ball. Other than possibly losing that little basterd rebuilding a 4100 is a piece of pie.

(he's probably got the idle screws too.)

Find the numbers yet?

Ok, I found the numbers they are a 6Z A. Im not sureif it needs a rebuild or not, it looks real clean from the outside. I figured I would rebuild it just for piece of mind. As far as the idle mixture screw goes im not sure where to begin there is barely any of it sticking outside the base. I may end up taking it somewhere for that. Are the mixture screws hard to find?

P.S. it is for the 68

Thanks Todd

Congratulations! You have a 1966 Mustang 289 V4 carburetor used with a manual transmission.

It will work with an automatic though, right? Where can I find a replacement mixture screw?
