I am looking at re-painting the interior metal in my 68. Right now it is about 3 shades of black. I want to keep it black but what color black should it be. Should it be flat, semi flat or gloss black? Thanks
Ford called it 'Charcoal Black Metallic' with a Ford reference of M1J 2083. I doubt you can find that from a dealer but the aftermarket calls the color'Charcoal Black Irid' with a reference number of 5780 used in the R & M paint code system. I wound up using a semi-gloss black myself even though I got a couple of the aftermarket black paint cans on the shelf. In any case, it is not flat nor gloss.

I don't know about the '68 black, but the '65 blue from NPD is a remarkable match to the original in both color and sheen. You may want to give it a try.
