Default what else could it be?

ok, i am again very frustrated with my 66 fastback, i was having problems with the car not wanting to idle, and sounding really bad until the rpms reached 2000. i then regapped the plugs, and the car ran great... for about a week. then the same thing happened. i decided to go with split fire plugs, and i was told to gap the plugs at .045, which i know now is not right, and should be .032-.035. but anyway, when i started the car with the plug gap at .045, it still wont run right? could this gap be causing the problem? or do i have something else that is causing this to run so bad? as always thanks for the help.

Yeah, if you have electronic ignition, the 0.045 is about right. If you still have points and condenser, go back and gap them to 0.032. If that doesn't clear up the problem, get back.

i have electronic igniton.
Then the 0.045 is about right. However, other guys on here seem to get better performance with the 0.032-0.036 setting even though they have electronic ignition. Play with it to see your optimum performance setting.

poorly adjusted carb, or just carb running way rich and fouling the plugs quickly making it run like crap fast perhaps.

If you walk behind the tail pipes in white....do you look like a leopard?

im just throwin this out there but why are you so dead set on it being the ignition?

maybe its somethin else because you've done the plugs right and different sets so its not like all of them could be defective so...

i thought it was the plugs, since the last time i fixed gap, the car ran great for a week. i will try adjusting the carb again tomorrow.

Plug wires? Try testing them to make sure you don't have a faulty one (using an ohm meter). At higher rpms you wont notice the mis until you have some load on the engine.
