It's doubtful it'd run any better with a bigger carb, it'd prolly run worse. And get worse mileage

first of all, I think this might be in the wrong forum...

But I don't see how it can drive worse? More air (to a point) is better. I would consider a 2 bbl carb upgrade. Easy to do, and should be enough air. I would imagine your carb is somewhere around 180CFM - a 2bbl would likely get you to 275-280. It would need to be properly jetted and tuned, of course, but that is the same with any carb

the reason more air isnt always good is that more air pulls more fuel(if uve ever leanred about carbs) and if teh motor cannot use it all it just wastes fuel..67 is probably right about not really helping. At least for the cost.

Yea, I used to study air intake and combustion design in college. But he has a 300 inline 6 - a big ol' boy. Here is a good guess as to what CFM you need. Technically, I could work it out by math, but I don't feel like it

What I'm saying though is that if you have a dinky 180CFM carb on a 300inline, it is starving for air.

jrstall, check out www.fordsix.com/forum/- they have a 300ci section.

Those 300 i6's also had a tiny little peanut cam, and each cylinder is breathing through the carb in puffs, not all 6 at once. Putting a bigger carb on it will most likely reduce the fluid velocity in the venturi and weaken the fuel metering signal, resulting in poor atomization and ineffective combustion, and the poor velocity in the manifold may cause fuel to fall out of suspension as well and puddle in the manifold. There's a reason they only came with that rinky dinky 1bbl carb. That engine does 1 thing and that's make torque down low, a bigger carb will kill that torque

Performance wise, it probably wont help out too much, but if your ignition is in good order then it will most likely smooth out your engine and give you a little better mpg. You could have your intake milled for a direct mount or buy an adaptor and just bolt it onto the origional carb opening. Check out www.fordsix.com
