Hard to answer without more information & expectations...
- Weekend cruiser or daily driver?
- Gas mileage or tire shredding horsepower?
- <2K or 'sky's the limit' budget?

In a 65, you'rechoices range from a 120hpinline 6 all the way up to stroked 408s and even 427ci small block V8s. Normal asparation, fuel injection, turbo, supercharging, etc..etc...

All it takes is money...

Um, sorry to correct you James W, but I think "Cubic Dollars" is the more appropriate term. [8D] Just kidding.

Good luck with the build, it is nice to hear you have switched to the good side of the force. I think you will be pleased with the torque these V8's can produce. If nothing else, the sound is better!

Go with a 5.0 out of a early 90's Mustang. They fit very easily and from what I hear it is the easiest way to make some good power. You can stroke them to 347ci pretty easily, and God knows there is forced induction all over the place and nitrous is just a few hundred bucks away. You can keep it with a carb, or adapt EFI to it and be really trick (making a supercharger a better option in my opinion). A 351 also fits with no real trouble, but the 302 (5.0) weighs a lot less.

Oh, and when you buy that 302, buy one for me too, I need one as well!

Haha, my buddy has a 65 fastback as well and he has a 351 W in it, but it's a tight fit and pretty damn fast. I'm going to have to agree with Roy, could go with a 5.0 302 they fit better, and you can get real nice power out of them, I put one in my 68 coupe, I6 to V8 and very happy. Also like James said, you can go turbo, s/c, n/a, all depends on what you're looking for.

I seemed to have missed a point or two: What is the current engine in the car? How much are you prepared to pay for secondary upgrades, as in brakes, suspension?
