Thx JMD, Norm, jlg2002 & restfor the input andsharing your experiences. I was under the impression I could run to Midas and get some cats installed that would cut down on the bad gasses, and that it would be that simple.

Didn't consider the heat they would generate, lack of space under the car for them, or that they wouldn't be very effective without additional smog stuff.

Now that I have a kid, my thinking has changed a bit about, well lots of stuff lol, but including pollution. Hell, I just started recycling beer bottles ( I can fill a trash can with themin 6 days).

I personally believe global warming is happening and human are a huge factor. I can'trecite bunch of scientific facts or mumbo-jumbo, but my common sense tells me things are getting worse, not better (as they relate to the environment), as each year passes. Not exactly an ideal subject for a classic car forum LOL. Anyways, I appreciate the replies.

Here's the link on Global Cooling from Newsweek Magazine of 1975 - http://denisdutton.com/cooling_world.htm
Read and get enlightened.

Amazing isint it....... I can see "global warming" people reading this today and passing the "global cooling" theorys as "out of the mainstream" and "fringe science". I was young, but I remember that scientists, the media, and other people alike took "global cooling" as seriously as many people embrace "global warming" today.....

It was a big deal at the time.......

If you are fillind a trash can with beer bottles every 6 days, you are poluting more that your Mustang,,,,, Farts have methane, and methane is for sure a "greenhouse gas"... I hope you don't recycle lots of eggshells too.

If you want to help the enviornment, plant a tree, it will do far more good for the air than you and your Mustang combined can do bad for the air.....

I had the unfortunate experience of living in the bowels of Idaho for a few years. East indeed.
I live close to Coeur d'Alene, pretty sweet area. Constantly being named one of the top 10 place to; live, raise a family, retire, vacation, ect. Did it occur to you Idaho might have more than one town? btw I lived in Denver. Nothing to write home about.

As a matter of fact, I've seen most of Idaho. I know that it has more than one town because I've been to both of them.

J/K. The Idaho panhandle is a nice place. Ever been down to Mountain Home? If so, you'll know what I meant by "bowels". If not, then you should learn more about your great state before you get all butt-hurt over a little ribbing.

IMHO, if you are so concerned about reducing emissions... ride your bike to work/school/crazy survivalist militia camp/whatever. Then you won't feel so guilty about your Mustang's emissions and all the drowning polar bears.
Yep, I grew up in Pocatello Idaho. Talk about the arm pit of the state. My butt is just fine, I just got a bit bent because I was looking for info and only found insult.

As for your humble opinion, don't think much of it. I don't think it has to be one extreme or the other.

btwI think theDenver area is pretty nice.A bit crowded, but nice.

lmao. I am currently in the market for a keg-er-rator. That will take care of all the glass, but not the farts lol. It NEVER occured to me that beer causes farts. Don't tell my wife or she'll cut me off ( I tell her my gas is a result of her cooking).

As for trees, I have planted 41 (only 2 died) on my property in the last 2 years. More for privacy then anything else. Perhapsi'll just call it good with the trees and forget about the cats.

If you can tell me why the ice caps are melting - on Mars, and why the storms have increased - on Jupiter, and why there was a warming period without SUV's around to do the nasty deed 1000 years ago, you might have a point about human activity being responsible.
I repeat, we live around a variable star.

When I lived in CA (San Diego), I had some DMV 'tard tell me that I had to get the full smog set-up for my car. I argued that my car wasn't made with smog equipment...and her reply was, "that's the reason you need it now." She conveniently had the shop that I was required to go to (probably her husband or brother-in-law). I decided to let my tags expire. I got a temporary and took my car home to Washington.
It must not have been a 25 + year old car, because those are exempt from any smog checks. My 64 gets no inspections of any kind whatsoever in California.

The sun has the greatest impact on global weather. It's a nuclear furnace that provides the heat energy necessary for weather to even occur on this planet. And higher solar activity also increases the hole in the ozone layer, which is caused by ionized solar particles impacting gasses in the upper atmosphere and generating chemical reactions(also known as the Aurora Borealis and Aurora Australius).

Isn't it the SAME group of scientists in the 70's that screamed about global cooling that are now screaming about global warming? I'm guessing in 10 years time they'll be proven 0 for 2

Speaking of pyromania,,,, what do you think the air quality and the enviornment would be like if everyone cooked and heated with wood? HMMM

You see, for the really hard core enviornmentalists,,,, the problem is not the fuel that is burned,,,, the problem is the people who do the burning,,, think about it....
