Default rear brake question

I'm putting a "new" rear end from a 66 mustang in and I'm now doing the brakes. The drums were so fused to the shoes that much of the material broke off...no big deal except now that I'm putting the new ones on I noticed that the new shoes have different length material on them. The cutouts etc are the same just that one shoe has full lenght material and the other is about 1 1/2 - 2 inches shorter. So which one goes on front/rear...and why??

The short one goes in front. Don't ask why. That's the way the Ford engineers did it back then. Accept it for a fact. Now, go figure out how to make a meatloaf sandwich taste the best.

For good meatloaf - add soy and garlic to hamburg; make into a four inch diameter, 3/8 thick patty (dothis several times); grill over hot coals; place on bun with your own preference of add-ons; eat.

Default RE: rear brake question

years ago, the thought surrounded inertia, since the vehicle is moving forward, the rear brake takes most of the load when stopping, the premise is also used on front disc brakes, notice how they usually mount towards the rear half of the rotor.
