In AZ and NM all that is needed is to apply for an "abandoned title", after this it is a 45 day wait to receive a new clear title.

Glen probably knows bestconcerning Texas though,,

I have the same problem with my 39 Ford, was last registered in AZ in 1972, "No Record Found",,,, I had the title, but my wife put it in a safe place so I would not loose it,,, that was over 10 years ago, havent seen it since,, and neither has she...

I'll try to go by the DMV next week. I might need to go ahead and get a quote on insurance.
I got quotes from about 6 of the most popular insurance companies, but found that Esurance was the cheapest. Good service too. You can't get it registered without first having insurance. This takes about 10 minutes of your time, and you can print out your policy and cards online.
